Man kills daughter, wounds wife

The daughter was certified dead on the scene and the wife was taken to hospital in a serious condition.

A Yeoville man has shot and killed his 21-year-old daughter and fatally wounded his wife.

The incident occurred at the corner of Minors and Bezuidenhout streets on October 21.

“It is alleged the man had an argument with his wife and left in a rush. He returned a short while later with a firearm and shot his 21-year-old daughter dead. He shot his wife three times in the upper body,” said Constable Thabo Malatji of the Yeoville SAPS.

The daughter was certified dead on the scene and the wife was taken to hospital in a serious condition.

“The suspect fled the scene on foot and the motive for the shooting is still unknown,” said Const Malatji.

A day after the incident took place, police officers received a lead on his whereabouts.

“The police followed up on a lead and traced him to the Beitbridge border post, where he was attempting to flee to Zimbabwe. The officers managed to arrest the man before he crossed the border,” said Const Malatji. He is expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
