Gunned down in Bedfordview

The victim has since been identified as Mr Sam Issa, a 51-year-old Lebanese businessman and Bedfordview resident.

A man was killed in a drive-by shooting on Bradford and Smith roads in Bedfordview, during the early hours of Saturday morning.

“The victim has since been identified as Mr Sam Issa, a 51-year-old Lebanese businessman and Bedfordview resident,” said Bedfordview SAPS communications officer, Sergeant Mduduzi Nhlabathi.

The deceased was described as an “associate” of Kloof Road resident and Czech businessman, Radovan Krejcir.

Mr Issa was shot and killed when a white Ford Ranger with four occupants stopped next to his car at a red traffic light.

Sgt Nhlabathi said, “Mr Issa was traveling alone at about 6am when he stopped at the traffic light at the corner of Bradford and Smith roads. The occupants of the Ford Ranger opened fired at his SUV.

“Mr Issa’s Audi Q7 was struck several times on the passenger side and front window. The victim tried to cross the red traffic light in an attempt to flee, but the suspects continued firing at him. The attackers fled the scene shortly after the shooting.”

Sgt Nhlabathi added, “Investigations are ongoing and a murder case has been opened. No suspects have been arrested yet.”

The two roads where the shooting occurred were closed off so that crime scene experts could investigate and process the scene.

Gauteng police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Katlego Mogale, said Mr Issa was declared dead at the scene. The motive for the killing is unknown.

This incident comes just a few months after Mr Krejcir escaped an attempt on his life at his diamond business property in Bradford Road on July 4.

Mr Krejcir has denied any association with the victim.
