Khanyisa continues to help

The Khanyisa soup kitchen in Edenvale has gained the support of council.

An amount of R6 000 will be given to the soup kitchen as part of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality’s (EMM) Grant – In Aid Scheme.

Funds will be used to continue the work done by the Khanyisa Trust to feed homeless and needy residents in Edenvale.

In showing its continued support for the soup kitchen, the Edenvale Methodist Church recently held is winter lunch for the homeless.

The event provided 140 members of the community with a warm lunch of chicken, rice, vegetables and fruit.

Members of the congregation also assisted the soup kitchen in handing out clothing to those who attended the lunch.

More funds were raised for the Khanyisa Trust when the Trinity Presbyterian Church in Elma Park held a fund raising breakfast for the organisation.

A total of R5 600 was raised.

In addition, employees from Greenstone Seven Eagles Spur continued the work they set out to do on Mandela Day and became regular volunteers at Khanyisa.

Khanyisa relies on donations received from the churches of Edenvale as well as regular donors.

For many families in Edenvale, Khanyisa is the only meal they will receive each day and the number of people who make use of the soup kitchen continues to increase.
