Couple celebrates 65 years of marriage

Their union has spanned 65 years and when on October 2 they celebrated being married for 23 741 days, it was evident their love remains undimmed.

World War II was a fresh memory and the National Party had just taken power in South Africa when Robert and Edith Morley tied the knot in 1948.

Their union has spanned 65 years and when on October 2 they celebrated being married for 23 741 days, it was evident their love remains undimmed.

Residents of Rand Aid Association’s Thornhill Manor for the past decade, the couple rejoice in their lovely surroundings, the “brilliant staff” and neighbours and, most especially, their growing family. The Morleys have two children, Robert Peter and Peggy Anne, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

“As pensioners, our greatest gift is being together, healthy and in love,” said Edith.

Robert advises newly-weds, that, “Tolerance, staying power and the ability to listen and not always talk” is key to maintaining a healthy relationship.

The Morleys’ inspirational milestone was celebrated at a special gathering of friends and family.
