Bogus cops strike again

A truck driver and his assistant escaped injury when bogus metro police officers hijacked them on Kraft Road, Elandsfontein on Thursday shortly after 11am.

The Bedfordview SAPS communications officer, Sergeant Mduduzi Nhlabathi said four men, one of them wearing a metro police reflector vest, in a white VW Jetta, signalled him to stop.

“When the victim stopped, one of the men asked the truck driver why he had skipped a red traffic light. There was an argument when the truck driver denied that he had skipped a red traffic light.

“The victim then asked for a fine but two men pushed the truck driver into the VW Jetta. They forced him at gunpoint to lie down on the back seat,” said Sgt Nhlabathi.

The men then drove around with the truck driver.

“The car eventually stopped. The truck driver and his assistant were put into the same car and later dropped off at an open field in Benoni. They walked until they found a restaurant where the owner called the police,” said Sgt Nhlabathi.
