Bird hides for Modderfontein

There are two bird hides in Modderfontein Reserve where nature lovers can enjoy the tranquil settings.

The hides provide a place where people can sit and observe wildlife, especially birds within the Modderfontein Reserve.

A hide at dam five, Blue Crane Dam, was funded by the Modderfontein Conservation Society. Another hide at the John Voelker Dam was funded by Heartland Properties. A third, still pending construction will also be funded by Heartland.

Modderfontein Reserve manager from the Endangered Wildlife Trust, Mr Luke Strugnell said, “We are busy with rehabilitation of the areas around these hides as well as placing logs in the water to attract birds to sit close to the hide for viewing.”

He added that the construction of blinded walkways leading up to the hides will further enhance the experience.

“We expect to see all types of water birds in and around these hides, for example Kingfishers, waterfowl, Fish Eagles and more,” said Mr Strugnell.
