Spare wheel thieves nabbed

Two men linked to the theft of spare wheels at shopping centres in Edenvale were arrested on Thursday by Edenvale detectives.

The arrest came after a member of the community sent a tip-off to the Edenvale SAPS when a vehicle the men were using was spotted in Edenvale.

Arresting officer, Detective Constable Adam Mathipa, said when the information was followed up it was found that the registration number on the vehicle was false.

“The information lead us to an address in Elsburg where two men were arrested,” he said.

By Thursday afternoon, the men were linked to three cases in Edenvale where the spare wheels of bakkies and SUVs were stolen from shopping centres in the Greenstone area.

Acting spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Roberts, confirmed that the men had previously been arrested on similar charges.

The men appeared in the Germiston Regional Court on Monday.
