Bedfordview townhouse development an eyesore

Morninghill residents have called the unfinished development in the area an eyesore.

Mr Tim Norris, the chairperson of the Morninghill Security Association, said the development of 50 townhouses next to the intersection of Boeing Road East and Batten Road has been interrupted because laws were not followed when the development began.

“They destroyed a historical heritage site to build this. People who live close to it will have to put up with the noise and traffic from the development every night. It is poorly located, badly planned and an unwelcome eyesore which should have never been allowed by council. That is why the community has resisted it,” said Mr Norris.

He said the community had to accept the development and let it continue, even though they did not approve of it.

“The available paperwork from council stated that everything was done correctly. We could not prevent the development from happening. We were too late. This site development plan was mysteriously approved by council without reference to the community,” he said.

The town planner ordered the developers to widen Boeing Road East and West following objections from the community. Mr Norris said the development has made the community more aware and vigilant.

“From now on, we will make sure that developers comply with every town planning requirement and inspection. As soon as they step out of line even slightly, they will be hit with a legal stop order,” said Mr Norris.
