Oil spill on N3 causes massive delays.
An accident on the N3 North, after the Gillooly’s Interchange between two trucks, has left parts of the N3 gridlocked.
The accident occurred in the early hours of the morning on September 11.
Two articulated trucks overturned as a result of the accident. Both came to a stop on Boeing Road West. One of the trucks was hauling cooking oil which spilt. Chief Superintendant of the EMPD, Wilfred Kgasago, said mopping up operations are currently underway.
The driver of one of the trucks was entrapped after the incident and was pronounced dead on the scene.
Another light delivery vehicle rammed into the trucks which caused a secondary accident.
“There is a massive gridlock on the N3 North, as far back as the Elands Interchange in Alberton. Currently only one lane is open to traffic,” said Supt Kgasago.
“It is going take some time before the two overturned trucks are recovered and cleaning operations are completed. Motorists are advised to avoid the N3 North,” he added.
