Bedfordview SAPS corporate communications officer, Sergeant Mduduzi Nhlabathi, said the man was walking on the hill when an attacker pointed a firearm at him and demanded money and other valuables.
“The man threw his cellular phone on the ground. When the other man reached for it, he took out his firearm and shot him,” said Sgt Nhlabathi.
It was later discovered that the attacker was using a toy gun.
“For now we cannot confirm whether this man is part of other robberies that have been reported at the hill previously. We hope the investigations will shed some light on that,” said Sgt Nhlabathi.
