Man arrested for armed robbery

A 21-year-old man has been arrested for armed robbery.

The incident occurred on the corner of Sivewright and Currey streets on September 4.

“It is alleged that a 22-year-old man was walking along the street when the suspect approached him,” said Warrant Officer Richard Munyai, spokesperson for the Jeppe SAPS.

The suspect pulled out a knife and demanded the bag the victim was carrying. The man refused, but the suspect grabbed it and ran away.

“The victim chased after him and saw some police officers. He told the officers what had just happened,” said Warrant Officer Munyai. The officers gave chase and arrested the thief. The bag was handed back to its owner. The suspect was charged with armed robbery and detained at the Jeppe SAPS station. He will appear in court and investigations are continuing.
