Work to protect Bill Stewart has commenced

The fencing of the Bill Stewart Nature Reserve in Bedfordview may be completed this month.

Ward 20 councillor, Michele Clarke, said the project has already commenced.

The road upgrade on the intersection of Kloof and AG De Wit led to the delay of the fencing.

“That project should be finalised at the middle of September. Once the road upgrade has been finalised, the fencing will be finalised,” said Clr Clarke.

She said the fencing started from the top on the Primrose side and will cover the whole reserve.

“In terms of protecting the flora and fauna, it is important to protect the reserve. The space has also become a soft target for crime and this prompted the community to request the reserve be fenced off. Once security is no longer a concern, the community can enjoy the environmental parts of the reserve,” said Clr Clarke.
