Gersbach calls for IDP submissions

The Democratic Alliance has urged residents of Ekurhuleni to get involved with the way in which their money is spent.

Residents can provide input into the 2014/2015 Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and budget process in Ekurhuleni, which has begun.

Submissions made by residents are reviewed on an annual basis in each ward by the councillor, ward committee and metropolitan officials.

DA ward 92 councillor, Graham Gersbach, calls on residents to submit their input to him by September 6 via email. His email address is grahamgers@gmail.com or fax proposals to 086 276 0982.

Residents with suggestions on capital projects they think the area would benefit from, and service delivery issues they would like addressed, have an opportunity to have their proposals heard.

Ward 92’s priorities, as identified on the IDP, are:

Stormwater management.

The upgrading of major roads, including sidewalks, stormwater drains and left or right turn lanes as required. These include Germiston Road / A G de Witt Road from the R24 to the end of A G de Witt; North Reef Road, Rietfontein to Barbara Road; Greenhills Road / North Reef Road from Sam Green Street, Greenhills to Jet Park Road with the Barbara Road intersection needing special attention; Jones Road, Jet Park; Kraft Road and Hattingh Street Elandsfontein and Elandsfontein Rail; Barbara Road Klopper Park through Tunney, Elandsfontein and Barvallen; Kruin Street Klopper Park; Herman Street from Barbara Road, Harmelia Ext 1 through Meadowdale to Edenvale Road; Yaldwyn Road / Ridge Road where required and Leith Road where a left turn lane is needed onto Trichardts Road, Bardene at Woodlands International College.

Development of Erf 40 /63 IR, between Olifant, Serenade, Amber and Kraft Roads, Elandsfontein, either through agreement with current owners or purchase of the property. Consideration must be given to what can be developed on the property. Priorities are a formal taxi rank opposite Elandsfontein Railway Station with ablution facilities for commuters and residents, multi-purpose community centre incorporating halls, a clinic and a library. The community is also looking for sports facilities, a primary school and satellite police station. Two churches have also approached Clr Gersbach for space.

Rehabilitation and upgrading of electricity network in Northern Germiston with Elandsfontein / Elandsfontein Rail being a priority where there are small cables that need to be upgraded. These cables limit switching when one circuit is off. It was indicated to Clr Gersbach that the acquisition of land to construct a new Sunnyridge power substation is being considered.

Refurbishment of sewerage infrastructure in Impala Park / Bardene / Bartlett, Solheim and Highway Gardens as required.

Ward 92 includes all Germiston suburbs north of the N12 and some Germiston suburbs south of the N12, as well as Boksburg suburbs north of North Rand Road. It also includes the following Germiston and Boksburg suburbs: Buurendal, Highway Gardens, Harmelia, Meadowdale, Meadowbrook, Klopper Park, Elandsfontein, Elandsfontein Rail, Sunnyridge, Sunnyrock, Activia Park, Henville, Tunney, Kruinhof, Greenhills Industrial, Gerdview north of Meppen Road / Park, Solheim East, Symhurst,the portion of Primrose between Symhurst and Wannenburghoogte, Wilbart, Rietfontein East of Bedfordview, Jet Park, Bartlett and Bardene (including Extensions) West of Atlas Road.
