Diviner helps Rand Aid
In a recent Modderfontein Conservation Society (MCS) newsletter, Thornhill Manor resident Ann Raats placed an advert for a water diviner to help find underground water at the Rand Aid Association retirement village.
She had no response for several weeks and gave up before she was contacted by new MCS member and Modderfontein Reserve honorary ranger, Sean Byrne who offered his services. A meeting was arranged for Sean to study a plan of the village. Even before setting foot outside, Sean had decided on the most likely location of underground water. A site visit followed and Sean backed up his estimate with divining rods and his own powerful gift of divination. “There is a lot of water flowing here,” he said. “Up to 1 200 litres an hour,” he added. Sean also said the location was no more than about 15 metres underground.
It is now up to Ann and the village committee to decide how to move forward. “I was thinking about a full-blown borehole,” said Ann. She added that she might have to revise her plans and think around a well and an elevated reservoir. Initially it is planned to use the borehole to irrigate nearby areas in the village, but this could be extended in time. Chairman of the village committee, Charles Power, expressed his appreciation to Sean for his time, effort and generous advice.
