Police serious about safety in Gillooly’s Farm

Five illegal structures were demolished at Gillooly’s Farm hill during an operation led by security agencies, including the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality Police Department (EMPD) By-law Enforcement Unit, Bedfordview SAPS and CAP Security on August 4.

EMPD’s spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago, said the operation covered the hill and the surrounding suburbs.

“Officers did foot patrols on the mountain. They converged from three sides of the hill, Morning Hill, Senderwood and from Gillooly’s Farm park entrance. All this happened at the same time. Officers found and demolished five illegal structures on the hill. Other structures that were demolished were found on the Civin Road side,” Chief Sup Kgasago said.

He added that from the whole operation, nine people were taken in for profiling at the Bedfordview SAPS.

“Two hawkers were removed at Bradford Road and Nicol Road. Four beggars were removed at Van Buuren Road and Kloof Road. About 70 vehicles and 121 passengers were stopped and searched,” said Chief Sup Kgasago.

He added that there will be many other operations at Gillooly’s Farm in the near future.
