Stones bouncer back in court

The trial of former bouncer Hercules Van Staden was postponed in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court last week.

Van Staden is facing a charge of culpable homicide for the 2012 death of Greenstone resident, Mr Danjay Singh, at Stones nightclub in Edenvale.

The incident took place on July 28 last year, with Mr Singh dying on August 2, allegedly as a result of his injuries.

Van Staden was granted R5 000 bail.

On Monday last week the matter was postponed by Magistrate Labuschagne to August 7 for video footage of the incident to be shown to the state and the defence.

Mrs Jayshree Singh told the NEWS that the video footage has become crucial in the matter after key state witnesses, Mr Bruce Parmasser, died of a heart attack on May 12.

“Bruce was a witness on the night my husband was assaulted,” Mrs Singh said.

The court is expected to set a date for the trial to continue on August 7.
