The Crib gets a Mandela Day facelift

Kensington residents and businesses teamed up to renovate The Crib in Kensington on Saturday, July 20 as part of Mandela Day.

The Crib is a safe house for abused and abandoned children aged up to eight years old.

The day started off when house mother, Karen Stilwell, was sent away for breakfast at the Saxon Hotel.

While she was out, volunteers arrived by the dozens to paint, trim, fix and polish the house Karen has opened up to children who in need.

Restoration, repair work and painting was conducted in two-hour shifts.

Along with restoring the house, a number of people also donated much-needed items to The Crib, including baby items as well as the paints used on the day.
