R50 000 up for grabs

The recently launched Tiles 4 Change campaign has grown in momentum.

For the campaign, Karaglen Shopping Centre teamed up with Edenvale Community Police Forum (ECPF) and Karaoke Connection.

Throughout the campaign residents stand to win massive prizes including a whopping R50 000 grand prize in the Karaglen Karaoke Star competition.

Karaglen Karaoke Star will be one of the biggest charity fundraisers to hit the area.

With R50 000 up for grabs, the event is guaranteed to attract a number of karaoke singers.

The event is open to everyone over the age of 16 and all proceeds will be donated to designated beneficiaries.

In addition to its R25 000 donation towards the grand prize, Karaglen Shopping Centre and Karaglen Spar have agreed to sponsor a wall where residents, families, businesses and schools can pledge to be drug-free.

By donating R10, each person who pledges to go drug-free will have their name placed on a tile which will be mounted at the entrance to Karaglen Shopping Centre.

Businesses who pledge that their staff is drug-free, will pay R1 000 for its name to be placed on the wall.

Another R25 000 has been pledged by competition sponsor, Karaoke Connection, for the first prize.

Other prizes will include weekend get-a-ways and cash prizes.

The aim of the fundraiser is to show the youth that there are other options out there and they do not have to turn to drugs to have a good time.

“We want to see Edenvale, Bedfordview and Johannesburg East drug-free,” Mr Harry Karamichael from Karglen Spar, said.

All monies raised from donations towards the Tiles 4 Change initiative will be donated to an anti-drug campaign for use in fighting the scourge of drugs.

In the weeks building up to the main event, Karaglen Shopping Centre will host a number of events which will give contestants a chance to register for the karaoke competition as well as take part in fun community competitions.

Monies raised during all build-up events will be donated to the selected charities.

Auditions for the karaoke competition will take place on July 28 and August 4.

Those who do not register for the competition during one of the build-up events can still enter on the day of auditions.

Registration will take place on audition days from 9am to 12 noon with auditions kicking off at 1.30pm.
