Jeppe Pipe Band gets a new home

The Jeppe Pipe Band has a new home.

Mr Anton Dempsey, Jeppe High School for Boys principal, granted the band permission in February to take up residence in the old school armoury.

Mr Craig Holz, the Pipe Band Patrons Association chairman, said a few weekends of hard work by members ensured the room was completed in time for the start of the 2013 competition season.
The opening ceremony was held recently.
“Thanks to the inclement weather, the roof wetting ceremony was quite literal. Despite the rain and lightning, a successful and entertaining evening was enjoyed by all,” said Mr Holz.
Association members, Annas Chadwick and Deon Koekemoer, were presented with a plaque in recognition of their contribution to the construction of the room.
“Their hard work and dedication and that of the other patrons, will benefit future generations of Jeppe band,” said Mr Holz.
The occasion was used to induct new band members, Mandla Ndabula and SIbusiso Nkosi.
They have been playing in the band since Memorial Day last year.
“The pipe band experienced a tremendous revival in the last 18 months thanks to the ongoing efforts of the patrons and new staff member and Jeppe Old Boy, Mr Damien Pitman,” said Mr Holz.
The band is available to perform at school and private functions. New band members and patrons are welcome.
