Pikitup fails to pick up in Yeoville

The streets of Yeoville are a mess.

This after Pikitup failed to collect the waste in and around the streets of Yeoville. The residents blame the strike by Pikitup for the mess. The EXPRESS was in Yeoville on Monday and came across a group gathered outside the Yeoville Recreation Centre, dressed in their overalls. The group told the EXPRESS that they were there to do the cleaning work “temporarily”.

“We were told we had to be here to do the job while the strike continues,” said a man who did not want to be named for fear of victimisation.

The streets around Yeoville were full of rubbish and dogs in the area were going through the rubbish. The residents were complaining about the smell in the air.

Outside the Yeoville clinic, bins were lined up waiting to be collected. On Tuesday people in blue overalls were seen sweeping the streets but the waste was still where it was the day before.

People who brought children to the clinic complained that the smell could lead to their children catching all sorts of diseases.

The EXPRESS requested comment from Mr Nthatise Modingoane from the City of Joburg and Mrs Desiree Ntshingila from Pikitup. At the time of going to print no comment had been received.
