Robbers hit on praying people again

Another robbery at Gillooly's Farm raises more concern about families' safety when visiting the popular public park.

A Cleveland resident will never go back to pray on the Gillooly’s Farm hill following a robbery that took place on Wednesday, June 26 around midday.  Mr Donald Skosana said that he and his three church friends were robbed by five armed men who initially posed as church people.
“As we were ascending, we saw these men in church clothes. We thought they were praying. We went to the other side of the hill to avoid disturbing them. As we were praying we heard voices ordering us to lie down. I fell down, lying face up. One of the men thought I recognised them and he hit me with the barrel of the gun on the head,” said Mr Skosana.
He added that the men tied their hands and feet with their shoe laces.
Mr Skosana said that the criminals took cellular phones, money and his car keys before they left.
He added that after they untied themselves they met other people who had just been robbed by the same group.
“These two men and two women told us that they were robbed by the same people minutes before we were held up,” Mr Skosana said.
“I will never go back to that place again. What I have seen there is never to be seen again,” he said.
Bedfordview SAPS corporate communications officer, Sergeant Mduduzi Nhlabathi, said that police are following several leads on this case.
“We are following some information and we hope to make an arrest soon,” he said.
Sgt Nhlabathi said that only one incident for that day at Gillooly’s Farm was reported to the SAPS. “We are not aware of another incident,” he said.
The community is urged to report incidents to the SAPS.
