Intersection hijackings on the rise

Bedfordview SAPS corporate communications officer, Sergeant Mduduzi Nhlabathi, says motorists should be alert when approaching intersections in Bedfordview.

Sgt Nhlabathi said that there has been an increase of car hijackings at Bedfordview intersections.
He added that these incidents occur at any time of the day.
On Wednesday last week a man was hijacked by four armed men at the corner of Smith and Bradford roads in Bedfordview just after 1pm.
“As the man stopped at the traffic circle, four men armed with guns, approached him from the driver’s side. They ordered him out of the car. Two of them drove off in his car while the other two got into two other vehicles, a BMW 1 series and white bakkie, and drove off,” Sgt Nhlabathi said.
He urged people to report these incidents if they see anything happening, even if they are not involved.
“It is important that we all work on stopping this crime. Today it might be somebody else, tomorrow it might be you. Let’s stop it before it is you. Report it to the police when you witness it,” said Sgt Nhlabathi.
