Saheti hosts 14th annual winter sports fest

In attendance were 900 competitors from eight different schools and they participated in the u-9 open age groups for netball and soccer.

Saheti School hosted its 14th annual Primary School Winter Sports Festival on June 9.

In attendance were 900 athletes from eight different schools and they participated in the u-9 to open age groups for netball and soccer.

Saheti School won against Heronbridge 3-1 in the u-12 netball match.

The matches were played in a round-robin format.

Schools which participated were Bedfordview Primary, Hurlyvale Primary, Bishop Bavin, St Martin’s, St Catherine’s, Woodhill College, Heronbridge College and Saheti.

Pam Lerm, head of sport – primary school at Saheti, said the festival was held to get schools, which normally do not compete against Saheti School in league events, involved.

“It is one of our big annual events on our calendar,” said Lerm.

She also said that Hurlyvale Primary School is Saheti’s biggest competition in both soccer and netball.

“It is our 14th year of the festival and we want to showcase other schools and support them as well before the end of the season for winter sports,” said Lerm.

Bishop Bavin School played against St Martin’s School in u-12 soccer.

The netball winners in the respective netball age groups were u-9 Hurlyvale, u-10 Saheti, u-11 Saheti and u-12 Saheti.

The open gold medal winner was Hurlyvale and the open silver medal winner was Saheti.

The trophy for the best netball school was awarded to Saheti and the team with the most goals scored was Hurlyvale u-13.

The soccer winners in the respective age groups were u-9 Saheti, u-10 Saheti, u-11 Hurlyvale and u-12 Saheti.

The open gold medal winner was Bishop Bavin and the open silver medal winner was Saheti.

The trophy for the best soccer school was awarded to Saheti and the team with the most goals scored was Saheti u-12A.
