Ekurhuleni players do well in regional golf game

"This is where the stars are born."

The Interprovincial Primary Schools Golf Championships recently took place at the Randpark Golf Club at the Firethorn Golf Course.

The event, which saw participants competing over the 36-hole course over a period of two days, gave primary school golfers an opportunity to compete against each other and find a champion.

In the build up to the event, over 110 schools participated against each other in league games and qualifier rounds.

The regions which participated were Ekurhuleni, Gauteng North, Central Gauteng, North-West, Limpopo and Mpumalanga.

“This is where the children start from grass roots, developing their golf. This is where the stars are born,” said Mr Hardus van der Merwe, the Central Gauteng Primary School golf coordinator.

In the girl’s individual stroke-play, the U/13 division the winner was Kiera Floyd from Ekurhuleni. Kim Turgut from Central Gauteng finished second and Holly Lau from Gauteng Notrth finished third.

The winner of the boy’s individual stroke-play U/13 division was Casey Jarvis of Ekurhuleni. Second place went to John-William Blomerus from Ekurhuleni and Chrisjan Maas of Gauteng North placed third.

The Ekurhuleni team won the boy’s category and finished third in the girl’s category.

Casey Jarvis from Ekurhuleni was deemed the overall winner of the day with a score of -11.
