Over 1 600 partake in fun run

"It was the most successful event to date"

The Annual Jeppe Fun Run/Walk which took place on August 13 saw over 1 660 people take part in the fun run.

According to Ms Carole Heming, public relations officer for Jeppe High School for Girls, a number of serious runners participated.

“It was the most successful event to date,” said Ms Heming.

The top three men participants were:

  •  Mark Chatham, who was the first person and first man to cross the finish line with a time of 19:58
  •  Brendan Devine was second with a time of 20:39
  •  Steven Selepe from Jeppe High School for Boys came third with a time of 20:45.

The top three women participants were:

  •  Kathryn de Buisson, who was the first lady to cross the finish line. She ran in a time of 22:15 and was placed 6th overall.
  •  Yonita Marto, who came in as the the second lady to cross the finish line, in a time of 22:48. Yonita came 8th overall.
  •  Talia McPherson in grade 9 was the first Jeppe girl to complete the race, running in a time of 25:40 and achieving 35th position overall.

The top 100 runners included these Jeppe Girls runners:

Naledi Nare (grade 11), 42nd.

Ciara van Tonder (grade 9), 46th.

Kasey Walters (grade 9), 53rd.

Heather Holland (grade 9), 54th.

Tasneem Bharoochi (grade 9), 67th.

Alea Brits (grade 8), 73rd.

Zainub Karodia (grade 12), 81st

Kezia Reddy (grade 9), 82nd.

Masego Ramatetse, 90th.

Lindokuhle Sukazi (grade 12), 98th.

Zinhle Ndlovu (grade 12), 99th.

Savannah Aysen (grade 12), 100th.

The run/walk which allowed participants to run with dogs and prams saw Mr Louie Fourie with his dog Bolt cross the finish line as the first dog-and-runner pair.

Mr Pierre de Boisson was the first competitor to finish while pushing a pram.
