Promoting bowls

“It is a way to attract new bowls players and to introduce the sport to people ”

The annual Jeppe Corporate Day, hosted by the Jeppe Quondam Bowls Club, took place on Friday, July 22.

The event, which not only promotes the sport but also acts as a fundraiser for the bowls club, saw companies leaving the office to play some bowls.

Twenty eight teams, made up of four members from each company, attended the corporate day.

The event kicked off at 9am and was played well into the afternoon.

“The event was hosted in order to promote the sport in a competitive but friendly manner,” said Jeppe Quondam Bowls Club secretary, Margot Demmel.

Ms Demmel said it was a good day for the club and for the sport.

She said many companies attended the event.

“It was not competitive where scores were kept, it was just a day out of the office and in the sun,” said Ms Demmel.

It was a chance for people to interact with each other and to meet people who work in the same industry.

Each team was awarded promotional prizes, which were donated by the companies partaking in the event.

“It is a way to attract new bowls players and to introduce the sport to people ” said Mr Barry Ireland.

He added that during the day there was a handicap system put in place to keep everything balanced between the bowls players and people new to the sport.
