Netball festival attracts 32 teams

Thirty two teams attended the festival and formed the largest gathering of schools yet for the event.

The St Andrew’s Annual Netball Festival attracted schools from various areas across South Africa.

The festival was held from March 31 to April 3.

“The event was held to promote exposure for English speaking schools, and within the sport of netball,” said Ms Tarryn Bird, a member of the coordinating group for the event.

Schools from Johannesburg, Durban, Pretoria, as well as local schools, attended the event.

Thirty two teams attended the festival and formed the largest gathering of schools yet for the event.

The teams from across South Africa, including a team from Zimbabwe, competed against each other and give it their all throughout the day.

The Girls College Bulawayo first team competed in the event and played against Holy Rosary School, but the Zimbabwean team did not do so well and lost.

“It was our first time at such a big festival. There were many new things,” said Sakhile Mbodza, the Zimbabwe team’s coach.

The teams who competed at the festival needed to do well in order to come back next year.

If a team was at the bottom of a group, they would not be able to attend the following festival.

“The aim is to grow the event,” said Ms Bird.
