Sizzling golf day for charity

We are inspired each year by the huge generosity of our guests."

Turn n Tender hosted its third annual golf day at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club on November 9.

The aim of the golf day was to raise money for non-profit organisations.

“The first golf day was at the Modderfontein Golf Course. We had a field of 24 teams. This year we moved to the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club and had a full field of 34 teams,” said Mr Dimitri Papadakis.

Mr Papadakis said they wanted to give back to the community by supporting the seven homes.

”Our stores are in seven areas of Gauteng and have been very well received and supported by these communities. We wanted to give back as well and felt that supporting our local charities would be a good start in doing so.

“We are inspired each year by the huge generosity of our guests. They willingly give of their time, and support and encourage our initiative every year. The initiative started in support of the St Mary’s Children’s Home. This year as we have included all seven Turn n Tender Steakhouses, each house selected a worthy beneficiary from their area.

“It is up to each steakhouse to select their beneficiary each year; some stay the same and others may change,” said Mr Papadakis.

The steakhouse aims to give R50 000 to each beneficiary. The first golf day in 2013 raised a total of R65 000 and the second one raised R170 000.

“We hope to break the R400 000 mark this year,” said Mr Papadakis.

The beneficiaries are the Philile Foundation, the Red Cross, Childhood Cancer Foundation of South Africa, Cherah Kadisha and the St Mary’s Children’s home.
