Local golf club celebrates victories

Two teams from Varsity College, who are members of the Glendower Golf Club, attended the University Sports South Africa (USSA) National Institutional Golf Championships.

The Glendower Golf Club celebrated the recent victories of its members.

Two teams from Varsity College, who are members of the Glendower Golf Club, attended the University Sports South Africa (USSA) National Institutional Golf Championships.

The event took place at the Port Shepstone Golf Club in Kwazulu-Natal last week.

“The teams had a week of outstanding golf and results to be proud of,” said Mr Tyrone Twilley, a PGA professional and the Glendower Varsity coach.

The Varsity College first team, consisting of Michael Ryan, Collin Campher, Shane Martin and Clayton Mansfield, had a victorious win in the strokeplay section.

Unfortunately, the team lost in the finals against the University of Pretoria by one point.

The second team members of Shannon Naidoo, Lorenzo Sardoz, Ongepotse Nkosi and Scott Heathfield, finished 13th overall.

They defeated the University of Cape Town’s team 1 and the Rhodes University team 1.

Varsity College’s first team also managed to defeat the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in the quarter finals and triumphed over the North West University.

They lost against against the strong Tuks team in the finals.
