Irish dancers excel at championship

All the dancers received recognition in their solo section dances, premiership and championships winning medals and ribbons.

Irish dancers from the Shaw-Butler Dancing Studio recently competed in the South African Irish Dancing Championships.

All the dancers received recognition in their solo section dances, premiership and championships winning medals and ribbons.

Dancers are trained by Merryl Hofmeyr and Gregory Moss.

Nicola Moor qualified to dance in the Irish World Championships in Montreal in 2015.

Morgan Zimmerman won the Tusghrad Priomh Comortas (premiership) for ages 11 and 12.

In the women’s 17 and 18 years championship, Katherine Welthagen finished in fourth place, Nicola Moore took home sixth place, Kaylin Condes finished in seventh place, Shelly Bosman took home an eighth place finish and Megan Moore was awarded second place in Step down the Line (championship).

In the Premiership Meanghrad level, Alicia Walters won second place while Megan Moore was awarded third place.

In the Premiership Advanced Tusghrad level, Shannon O’ Connor was awarded second place while Alicia Walters finished in fourth place. Victoria Welthagen finished in seventh place.

In the Premiership Bunghrad level for 11 years and older, Marthinette Botha won third place.

In the Premiership Bunghrad level for ages nine and 10, Cuinn Calcutt won second place.

Layla Johnson won second place in the Premiership Bunghrad level for eight and under, while Mia Ross took third place in the same category.

Other results were as follows:

  •  Marthinette Botha, seventh in reel.
  •  Cuinn Calcutt, fifth in light jig and fifth in single jig.
  •  Erin Calcutt, fifth in single jig.
  •  Courtney Giannacarro, eighth in reel and ninth in single jig.
  •  Layla Johnson, fifth in reel and second in light jig.
  •  Hannah Johnson, fifth in reel and eighth in light jig.
  •  Sinead Meyer, fifth in light jig.
  •  Nicola O’ Connor, fourth in light jig.
  •  Kathrine Welthagen, fifth in reel.
  •  Morgan Zimmerman, third in single jig.
  •  Megan Moore, second in light jig, first in slip jig and fourth in hornpipe.
  •  Nicole Moore, seventh in light jig, ninth in reel, eighth in single jig and sixth in St Pats.
  •  Shannon O’ Connor, fourth in light jig, fifth in sing jig, fourth in S1 jig and four in hornpipe.
  •  Alicia Walters, first in reel, fifth in light jig, second in sing jig, third in S1 jig and first in hornpipe.
  •  Victoria Welthagen, fifth in reel, fourth in hornpipe and second in light jig.
  •  Shannon Vinnicombe, fifth in light jig, second in single jig and fourth in treble jig.
  •  Abigail, ungraded gold medal, two silver medals and a bronze medal.

In the Ceili team dances, the results were as follows:

4 Hand Reel: Third place was awarded to Ivana Picco, Megan Moore, Shelly Bosman and Nicola O’ Connor. Fifth place was awarded to Alicia Walters, Shannon O’ Connor, Hannah Johnson and Shannon Vinnicombe.

6 Hand Reel: Second place was awarded to Sinead Meyer, Marthinette Botha, Nicole Moore, Morgan Zimmerman, Courtney Giannacarro and Cuinn Calcutt. Third place was awarded to Shannon O’ Connor, Megan Moore, Shannon Vinnicombe, Alicia Walters, Morgan Zimmerman and Erin Calcutt. Fourth place was awarded to Shelly Bosman, Hannah Johnson, Nicola O’ Connor, Ivana Picco, Kathrine Welthagen and Victoria Welthagen.

8 Hand Reel: Second place was awarded to Alicia Walters, Hannah Johnson, Kathrine Welthagen, Victoria Welthagen, Nicola O’ Connor, Shelly Bosman, Megan Moore and Ivana Picco.
