Wasps tournament a success

Over 620 rugby players took part in the Rugby Wasps' biggest rugby competition yet on Saturday, June 21.

The tournament took place at Edenvale High School and included children from the age of eight and upwards.

The tournament also featured a mini flea market, classic cars on show and the auctioning off of rugby-related items such as signed balls and shirts.

“The event was made successful by the parents, coaches and players. In last year’s event, we drew in a total of 370 cars. This year a total of 520 cars came through our gates,” said the chairman of the Wasps Rugby Club, Mr Brian Smith.

“Over 620 boys played on our fields, making this event the largest ever hosted by Wasps. The children played with heart, maintained discipline and displayed courage, resulting in spectacular rugby,” said Mr Smith.

The teams that competed included the Diggers, the Pirates, the University of Johannesburg, Jeppe Boys, the Wasps, the Bobbies, Khosa, Alberton and the Cobras. @BedfordJourno
