Wheelchair basketball series continues

The wheelchair basketball series is currently in its 18th year and has eight of the top wheelchair basketball teams competing.

The 2014 Supersport Wheelchair Basketball Series continued at the Mandeville Sports Centre over the past weekend.

The Cape Town Saints took on the Buffalo City Bears and the EHK Mongoose took on the AGA Lions on Saturday, May 10.

The series also saw the Discovery Eagles taking on the Cape Town Saints and the Ricoh Pumas taking on EHK Mongoose on Sunday, May 11.

Mr Charles Saunders, the chief executive officer of Wheelchair Basketball South Africa (WBSA) said, “The wheelchair basketball series is currently in its 18th year and has eight of the top wheelchair basketball teams competing. This weekend was the last of the first rounds. After these, the teams will be moving to the second round of the tournament.”

“The tournament has been difficult in seeing who will emerge victorious, which means the competitiveness of the tournament has increased. Usually by this time of year we have an idea who will be the champions of the league, however we do not this year. The competition is wide open and we are looking forward to seeing how things unfold,” said Mr Saunders.

The results for the weekend’s games were:

  •  Cape Town Saints 59-60 The Buffalo City Bears
  •  EHK Mongoose 42-70 AGA Lions
  •  The Discovery Eagles 50-57 Cape Town Saints
  •  Ricoh Pumas 74-31 The EHK Mongoose
