Tsholofelo – the story of hope at Jeppe Girls

Written by the cultural head of the school, Ms Michelle Pugin in conjunction with Ms Jani MacRobert from the music department, the play deals with the issues of racism, discrimination and xenophobia.

“Tsholofelo – the story of hope “moves beyond discrimination and towards unity.

250 girls and some Jeppe High School for Boys auditioned for the play and a final cast of 27 were chosen. The cast learnt songs and dances that were in some instances different from their own cultures and languages. They sacrificed sport, holidays and afternoons to be at rehearsals.

The production was staged in May and the last two performances were sold out.

The school hopes to take Tsholofelo to the Grahamstown Festival next year.

In celebration of Youth Month, the play will be staged on June 20 and 21 in the school hall at 7.30pm.
