Furry friends fundraiser

Pet fanatics gathered at Karaglen Shopping Centre on Saturday, July 13 for the first-ever Karaglen Glamour Pets competition.

Big bouncy dogs and petite pooches all took to the stage in hopes of walking away with the title ofbest dog.

Winners were chosen in big dog and small dog categories and in addition each judge could pick their show favourite.

Dakota was the winner of the big dog category with Dusty in second place and Maverick in third place.

Nunu walked away as the winner of the small dog category with Tye in second place and Juby in third.

Dakota was also chosen as the Bedfordview and Edenvale NEWS’ dog of the show.

Juby was awarded the Edenvale Community Police Forum’s (ECPF) dog of the show.

Lola was awarded the SPCA dog of the show while her sibling, Mr Bojangles, was awarded the Steers’ dog of the show.

Nunu walked away as the favourite of Karaglen Spar.

All funds raised from the entrance fees for the show were donated to the SPCA along with 30 bags of pet food sponsored by Karaglen Spar.

Contestants were each given a small bag of dog food for their participation which was all donated to the Edenvale SPCA.

Winners in each category walked away with a supply of dog food and also donated some of their winnings to the SPCA.

In total, the Edenvale SPCA left the event with a Kombi load full of pet food.

The competition formed part of the Edenvale Tiles 4 Change drug-free campaign.

The Tiles 4 Change community initiative will encourage individuals, families, businesses and organisations to be drug-free.

For the initiative, Karaglen Shopping Centre has partnered with the Edenvale Community Police Forum (ECPF) and Karaoke Connection.

Throughout the campaign residents stand to win massive prizes, including a whopping R50 000 in the Karaglen Karaoke Star competition.

Karaglen Karaoke Star will be one of the biggest charity fundraisers to hit the area.

With a grand prize of R50 000, entries are already flowing in to support the cause.

The event is open to everyone over the age of 16 and all proceeds will be donated to designated beneficiaries.
