Suspects caught after high-speed chase on Modderfontein Road

The police arrested the suspects for hijacking and the possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Four suspects were arrested, and a firearm was recovered after Edenvale’s law enforcement stakeholders brought a high-speed chase to an end on Modderfontein Road.

Edenvale Police Station’s communication officer Warrant Officer Jacob Mashile said a joint effort of Edenvale’s security companies and the SAPS secured these arrests.

He said on Wednesday nine individuals, driving a white Nissan Almeria, allegedly hijacked another motorist.
According to Edenvale CPF, the victim was a courier driver.

The damaged white Nissan Almeria, which the suspects were fleeing in.

After law enforcement received reports of the crime, private security personnel and SAPS responded.

Mashile said a high-speed chase ensued between law enforcement and the suspects’ Nissan.

“While trying to manoeuvre their way on Modderfontein Road, the suspects’ vehicle lost control and collided with the back of a truck.

“The team arrested the suspects and charged them with possession of an unlicensed firearm, hijacking, reckless and negligent driving. Their vehicle was seized for further investigation,” said Mashile.

The suspects were expected to appear in Germiston Magistrate’s Court on October 10.

“Police cannot rule out the possibility of adding more charges against the suspects as the investigation continues,” said Mashile.

“Police detectives are working with other stakeholders to secure all evidence.”

Acting station commander Lieutenant Colonel Suzan Mathebula welcomed the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of the firearm.
