Edenvale resident spotlights speeding on Palliser Road

The speeding continues into the night and is often worse than during the day.

Edenvale resident Rodney Hill raised concerns about the speeding motorists on Palliser Road.

The portion of Palliser Road in question lies between Terrace and Aitken roads.

Two complexes and a nursery school are on the portion of Palliser Road identified by Hill.

He said that at least 120 vehicles from both complexes enter and exit Palliser Road. However, this is made difficult by speeding motorists.

Hill said, at times, it is unsafe and dangerous for those trying to merge with or exit Palliser Road.

“Motorists pull off from the three-way stop on Aitken Road and speed down Palliser Road. It’s the principal of the matter,” said Hill.

Hill said despite understanding that traffic calming measures like speed humps could not be installed on the road, there should at least be a sign for the speed limit.

“I’m appealing to the municipality to install a speed limit sign to remind motorists of the speed limit,” said Hill.
When the NEWS was on location with Hill, it saw no speed limit signage.

However, EMPD officers were present, pulling over and citing some motorists travelling from Aitken Road to Terrace Road for traffic violations.

According to Hill, who has lived in the area for six years, speeding motorists travel along Palliser Road at all times of the day.

“The speeding continues into the night. Often, it’s worse at night. Sometimes, from 19:00 or 20:00, you can hear the cars speeding down the road. I ask myself, ‘Why is there so much traffic on this road?” said Hill.

According to Hill, a serious collision will happen because of the speeding motorist’s behaviour.

In the time he has lived in the area, Hill said there have been several collisions on Palliser Road, mostly involving motorcycles.

“Some collisions may not have been serious, but I believe they all occurred because somebody was not obeying traffic regulations.”

A request for comment was sent to the EMPD on September 11, requesting comment by September 13 at 14:00.
