Elba wraps up final activation for The Vale Tournament

The one million prize tournament will take place in November at Ellis Park Stadium.

Edenvale Lions Basketball Academy hosted the third and final activation of the upcoming The Vale Tournament (TVT) on August 3.

This thrilling preparation for the main event saw the courts of Germiston Stadium come alive with the energy and excitement of 24 teams from across Gauteng attending the activation.

The R1m prize tournament will take place in November at Ellis Park Stadium.

Basketball teams from across Gauteng visited Germiston Stadium for Elba’s final activation before the main TVT event in November.

Edenvale Lions Basketball Academy’s coach and co-founder Edson Makavan said as a club they are feeling positive as they head into the tournament because of the activation’s success.

“The turnout is good and we always pull events at the same time we are pioneering the 3×3 tournaments as Elba,” said Makavan.

The decision to host the activation at Germiston Stadium, Makavan explained that varying locations offer teams and spectators a chance to experience different environments.

“Players have to experience different environments as well. We would have loved to host it in Pretoria as well as other parts of the province,” he said.

The main event will pull players and crowds from Botswana, and Zimbabwe as well as teams from SA.

“This will be the biggest tournament in Africa in terms of prize money,” he added.

He encourages the corporate world and companies to get on board and support the event.

Elba hosted its final activation event at Germiston Stadium on August 3.

Casey Masters from Decathlon South Africa, one of the sponsors for the final activation, said, “We are really big on our events and we like to be part of the community.

“This is our first basketball event, so we would like to put our hands into different events because we have 60 sports under our roof and we are looking into getting more involved in basketball.”

Masters said it is important for them to get involved as they are seeing growth within the basketball space in SA.
