Probus Bedfordview has officially inducted Ineke O’Dogherty as the new president of the club.

The induction took place at the St George’s Village on July 3.

She took on the acting role in April from former president Mike Manning who held the position for seven years.
O’Dogherty has been an active member since the club restarted after Covid-19.

“I said to them, if you need help, let me know because I had heard about Probus Modderfontein, but they used to have their meetings at night and I lived in Edenvale and didn’t want to travel.

“But I used to hear about the speakers and think, ‘That sounds good.’

“That’s why I thought I needed to get involved because I like listening to people, learning different things and connecting with others,” she shared.

As the president her role also includes finding diverse and engaging speakers for their monthly meetings.

“This month we had the pleasure of having Louise Abrahams, who is a stage four cancer survivor and a certified tension and trauma release provider.

“Next month, we’ve got a gentleman who’s worked all his life with South African blood transfusion, and he’s going to talk about that.”

During her tenure, O’Dogherty aims to expand the club’s membership and ensure its longevity.

“A lot of the Probus clubs have closed down. Luckily, we’re getting new residents into the village that are young enough to still want to listen, learn and socialise,” she said.

They meet in the lounge at St George’s Village on Economides Road, Bedfordview.

The club is looking for new members and welcomes all visitors. For inquiries or if a speaker is interested in joining for a talk, contact O’Dogherty on 084 757 1289 or email oineke10@gmail.com.
