Bedfordview SPCA grateful for donations received from community

"We have one vehicle, which travels every route in each of the 66 areas we service. It also requires service."

The Germiston Bedfordview SPCA continues to receive donations from the greater Germiston community, ranging from cash to pre-loved items and animal food.

The recent donation of R3 200 that the residents of Ward 92 raised serves as evidence of this.

On April 29, Clr Kade Guerreiro handed the funds over to the SPCA.

Guerreiro praised the ward’s residents for their hard work in raising the money.

He claimed that the community was able to unite and work toward supporting the SPCA as a shared objective.

“We held a drive last year and raised a sizable sum of money, part of which was used to repair their vehicle and the rest to settle their municipal bill.

The Germiston Bedfordview SPCA calls on residents to adopt pets from the organisation.

“With winter steadily approaching, the recent donations will be put to use. They’ll need blankets, animal food, and money to make sure their outreach programmes are successful.

“When it comes to animal care, the SPCA is an essential institution that offers a service that neither the city nor the province can equal,” said Guerreiro.

“We are pleading with the community to support the organisation by donating blankets, money, pet food, and voluntary labour.”

SPCA cadet inspector Sandile Gama said the organisation is grateful for the donation and needs more support.

He said that office supplies, uniforms, vehicle repairs, gas, and hygiene products are just a few items on their wish list.

“We have one vehicle, which travels every route in each of the 66 areas we service. It also requires service. We have a bookshop and a container where we sell second-hand goods to make money.

“As we will be conducting numerous outreach programmes allowed by the budget, we will require additional blankets and animal food this winter.

“We encourage owners of pets to take them in for vaccinations; rabies is most frequently contracted by dogs,” said Gama.
