EFC’s women’s team prepare for league debut

The EFC’s women’s team will participate in the Gauteng Women’s Development League, with their first match on March 24.

The Edenvale Football Club women’s team is gearing up for their debut at the Gauteng Women’s Development League.

With their first match scheduled for March 24, they held trials on March 9 at their home ground (Edenvale Sports Club) as the club prepares to field two teams, one in the U14 category and another in the U16.

On the day, the U14 girls’ team played a friendly match against the boys’ U11, allowing trialists to showcase their skills and abilities.

The league comprises teams like Mamelodi Sundowns, JVW, Highlands, Tuks, and others.

Team manager Bev Antonopoulos said she was confident the team would be competitive and give it their all.

“It will not be easy playing against big and experienced teams such as TUKS, Highlands, and JVW.

“When we started, we were nervous and worried, but seeing how the girls have progressed, we believe we stand a chance of being competitive.

“Even in defeat, as long as the girls give their all, we consider it a success. That is how they grow and improve,” Antonopoulos said.

She added that the team would start on a high against good competition.
