Elba players fine tune their skills for games ahead

“We want to simulate in-game situations for the players.”

With the December break over, the Edenvale Lions Basketball Academy (Elba) players were hard at work preparing for the first games of the year.

Set to be played in February, the Elba family were seen fine-tuning their skills and abilities in preparation for the games on January 20.

During practice, a player uses their shoulder to push their opponent away to get closer to the hoop.

The players participated in one-on-one shooting drills.

According to coach Edson Makavan, these drills promote IQ and situational awareness on the court.

“We want to simulate in-game situations for the players,” he explained.

Other drills practised included isolation drills, shooting drills and improving fitness.

Elba attracts players from Germiston, Kempton Park, Thembisa, Alexandra and the suburbs of the greater Joburg East area.

Its home court is at the Edenvale Sports Grounds.
