Badminton pair Jordaan claims victory in Botswana

They defeated Aminath and Fathimath Razzaq 21-13, 20-22, 21-18 to clinch the cup.

Badminton pair Deidrè Jordaan and Amy Ackerman clinched the women’s doubles title at the Botswana Future Series at the Al-Nur International School in Gaborone, on November 26.

The Eastern Gauteng Badminton Association (EGBA) members beat the Razzaq twins, Aminath and Fathimath from the Maldives, 21-13, 20-22, 21-18 in a tense final for their third successive tournament victory.

Before the final, the duo claimed a straight-set victory against Botswana pair, Nancy Kahaka and Tsholofelo Willie in the quarter-finals on November 25. They clinched the match 21-17, 21-19.

In the last four on the same day, they defeated Fadilah Shamika Mohamed Rafi and Tracy Naluwooza from Uganda 21-12, 21-18 to move to the final.

The duo continued their rich vein of form in their quest to qualify for next year’s Olympic Games in France after winning the Zambia International on November 19 and the Algeria International Series in October.

Jordaan and Ackerman’s teammates, Caden Kakora and Johanita Scholtz were defeated 21-18, 21-10, and 22-20 in the semi-finals in the mixed doubles.

The players now shift their attention to the South African Future Series in Cape Town from November 30 to December 3.
