CoE needs more budget for High Road repairs

CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini said there were repairs to two potholes on the corner of Aitken and High roads on October 14.

The repairs to potholes on High Road in the Eastleigh Ridge road enclosure are underway.

Despite this, the CoE informed Bedfordview and Edenvale News that to rehabilitate High Road effectively, the city needs more budget.

This comes after resident Glenda McGoldrick raised concerns about the lack of service delivery in the area.

According to McGoldrick, the potholes on High Road, particularly one near her property, have existed for several months despite her reporting the matter in June.

Bedfordview and Edenvale News spoke to the frustrated resident on October 10.

CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini said there were repairs to two potholes on the corner of Aitken and High roads on October 14.

“What remains are trenches caused by water leaks. Water Department officials will be notified to attend to them,” said Dlamini.

He said the ageing infrastructure caused the potholes and water leaks.

One of these large potholes, or trenches as referred to by CoE, is near McGoldrick’s property.

Referring to her concerns about the time it has taken to repair the potholes, Dlamini said, “The city has roads and stormwater officials patching potholes on High Road on an ongoing basis.”

He said the reports were acknowledged, but the resources to attend to the reports are currently limited.

Dlamini said that to address the matter fully, they must rehabilitate High Road from Aitken Road to Terrace Road.

“However, this needs more budget. Currently, no funds are allocated,” said Dlamini.
