Runners hit the streets of Bedfordview

The community shows support for another successful borough of Bedfordview run.

The Bedfordview Athletics Club announced a successful Boroughs of Bedfordview run on September 25, powered by Afrihost.

Participants enjoyed a 15km and 5km run through the beautiful suburb of Bedfordview on a windy morning.

The winners:

The top three male runners for the 15km: Rirhandzu Rhangani (first), Bright Mikolongwe (second) and Thabo Motaung (third).

The top three female runners for the 15km: Regina Ndlovu (first), followed by Cornelia Joubert, with Tebogo Keganneng Mokgosinyane occupying third spot.

Race director Charnia Yapp said the 5km fun walk/run was in support of the Bedfordview community and the net proceeds from the event were donated to the NPO Better Bedfordview.

“The NPO is funded by caring and community-spirited residents and businesses. Bedfordview Athletics is pleased to hand over R25 000 to Better Bedfordview,” said Yapp.

The organisers of the run extended their thanks to the sponsors, service providers, community, schools and businesses.

“The event would not be possible without the race sponsorship from Afrihost and their awesome race shirts, socks, internet vouchers, spot prizes, waters at the finish and the free race photos.

“The phenomenal service providers ensured a well-run event. They are ABI, ASM Safety Consultants, AllyCats, and B-One Toilet Hire, Easy Waste, EMPD, Dial A Medic, Lodge Security and Peak Timing.

“We thank Better Bedfordview for fixing potholes, painting markings on the road and cleaning the pavements,” added Yapp.

Other local businesses also donated and sponsored prizes.

Yapp thanked Holy Rosary School, who helped at the second water point and St Benedict’s College at the third water point.

“Thanks also to RAG and Blue Hawk Tactical for looking out for the marshals on the race route, and BCPF for doing patrols.”
