Essentially Edenvale helps make a difference

“By doing this work we are not only making Edenvale neater but we are ensuring that water can flow into the drains and not be channelled down the roads when it rains.”

Members of Essentially Edenvale were hard at work in town improving an area around MW de Wet Primary School.

Along Horwood Street, a paved walkway, which was overgrown with grass, was being unearthed last week.

A reason the pavement along Horwood Street was selected was because it borders the primary school and is a path many pedestrians and learners, from various schools make use of.

By improving it, it will hopefully be safer to use.

Once Horwood Street is completed the team will move to Second Street and work on the pavements there.

One of the founders of Essentially Edenvale, Lisa Atkins, explained that members of the organisation have been assisting in the preparations for the rainy season.

She said the team has cleared and de-weeded the gutters and stormwater drains along Seventeenth Avenue.

“By doing this work we are not only making Edenvale neater but we are ensuring that water can flow into the drains and not be channelled down the roads when it rains.”

Atkins said despite Edenvale having a fantastic roads department team, which has been doing repairs and road markings in the area, she said the municipal team does not have enough resources to address everything.

Because of the lack of resources, Atkins said the Essentially Edenvale team is trying to stop gaps and assist where it can.

The pavement before work started on it.

She said recently the roads department has done numerous pothole repairs throughout Edenvale but is in need of SS60 liquid sealant to correctly treat and seal the potholes.

Atkins said without the sealant the potholes would erode away with heavy rains.

To purchase enough sealant Essentially Edenvale needs to raise R3 500. So far R1 800 has been raised.
