Edenvale Panthers defeated by Kempton rivals

The Wolwe first team ran in 12 tries to beat the Panthers 76 to seven.

Kempton Park Rugby Club celebrated its 80th Anniversary on June 3 with two wins over the visiting Edenvale Panthers.

Tandella Oldies kicked off the festivities with a convincing win over TWR followed by Wolwe’s second-team domination to beat the Panthers 34-22.

Leading by example forwards man of the match Darren Alexander and back-line man of the match Brandon Riekert set the pace for the stellar Wolwe performance.

One try each was scored by Kelebogile Masogo, Ryan Steyn, Roedolph Bredenkamp, Brandon Riekert and Warren Friend.

Roedolph Bredenkamp ensured two successful conversions.

The first team match was the highlight of the festivities, with the Wolwe giving their best performance of the season.

There was plenty to cheer about as the Wolwe ran in 12 tries to beat the Panthers 76 to seven.

“Upfront, every single player could be named the star of the match as they gave it their all to dominate a physical Panthers pack,” said Kempton Park Rugby Club’s vice chairperson, James Barnardt.

In the end, Zach van Loggerenberg scored two tries with some brilliant individual play, earning him the forwards man of the match honours.

“For the backline, the Wolwe’s forward pack dominance gave the boys ample opportunity to get a clean ball, and they delivered some amazing running rugby,” said James.

Backs player of the match, Tiaan Venter ran in four tries, giving the backs seven tries vs the five of the forwards.
Hayden Maree slotted eight conversions.

Other point scorers for the game were Kelebogile Masogo, Kobus Nel, Vincent Ndlovu, Chris Kasselman, Quinton Fincham and Diego Wyngaard.

“Kempton rugby is back, and we are more motivated than ever to bring some silverware back to the club soon.”
Next up, the Wolwe will face Elsbrug, at home on June 10.
