Sergeant Styles Maome advised when you allow people to enter your premises, to insist they remove their caps and hats to ensure visible surveillance footage if needed at a later stage.

He issued this warning after numerous complaints from guest house owners who fell victim to robberies.

Primrose SAPS Sergeant Styles Maome, speaks to a guest house owner in Primrose east.

“Owners must install extra security and panic buttons to alarm security companies.

“Sometimes they book and pay for accommodation early in the day. They later return with their accomplices to rob the guest house. They are quick to survey the security available and strategies.

“During a recent incident, criminals restrained employees during a Primrose east robbery. They took the majority of possessions, including televisions and appliances,” said Maome.

Germiston SAPS communication officer Constable Maxwell Mabunda said they have not experienced problems with guest house robberies.

“We had cases of people robbing doctors’ rooms last year.

“Robbers gained access requesting to see the doctor and would rob cash, including consultation fees,” said Mabunda.
