EMPD spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa said the task team and warrants unit officers were on patrol when a community member alerted them to possible illegal activities occurring at a store in the area.
After responding the officers visited the suspected store where they discovered numerous boxes containing illicit cigarettes.
“Alcohol was also sold on the premises without a valid liquor licence, which was confiscated.”
Thepa said two men tried to bribe the officers with R2 000 and were arrested.
“The men face charges of bribery, dealing in illicit cigarettes worth an estimated street value of R147 000 and selling alcohol without a valid liquor license,” said Thepa.
The suspects, who are foreign nationals, were detained at Edenvale Police Station before they faced charges in court.
