Local police welcome learners back at school

Primrose SAPS hosted their back-to-school awareness campaign to sensitise learners about crime.

The campaign started at Dawnview High School on January 11.

Officers were joined by several stakeholders including members of the youth desk.

Primrose SAPS corporate communications officer Sergeant Styles Maome, said they welcomed the Grade Eight learners.

“We advised them to refrain from criminal activities and not to bring illegal items to the school,” said Maome.

“We also addressed social issues including bullying, smoking, dating, and teacher harassment and encouraged them to excel in their academics.

We introduced our social workers in case someone needs counselling sessions with a social worker,” said Maome.

Maome said they will continue patrolling around the schools and do school searches throughout the year.

“The safety of learners is our priority as much as it is for the teachers.

“We encourage principals to stay in contact with us for when they need us,” said Maome.

The awareness campaign will continue in other schools throughout January.
