On November 11 MOTHS, SA Legion and other musterings will parade to honour the Fallen at sunset at the Modderfontein Cenotaph.

Shellburst Shellhole chairperson Mark Louw said the services are held to pay homage to all fallen heroes but particularly those from local communities.

“These heroes will never be forgotten and their names are inscribed onto the cenotaph.”

The Modderfontein cenotaph is located on Casino Street.

Mark said it has been carefully tended to and maintained, for many years, but no Remembrance Service has been held at it in 20 years.

This year, the past members of the now defunct Cassino Shellhole, housed in the Old Post Office building in Modderfontein village will once again parade to pay homage to their peers,” said Mark.

He said many of those who died were the sons and employees of AECI Modderfontein.

The memorial service will begin at 18:00 and wreaths will be laid at sunset.

The Shellhole welcomed families of the fallen, veterans and members of the public to attend and lay a floral tribute at the cenotaph in memory of a loved one.

It further encouraged families and community members who know of anyone honoured on the Cenotaph to contact the Shellhole.
